Vietnamese PHO breaks into global list of 20 best soups

CNN has included PHO BO (Vietnamese beef noodle soup) in its list of 20 best soups in the world along with China’s Lanzhou equivalent and Thailand’s Tom yum goong.

Pho Thin - One of the best Pho Bo in Hanoi

"Broth is simmered for hours with cinnamon, star anise and other warm spices to create a wonderfully aromatic base for this rice noodle soup," American news channel CNN said of pho.

CNN said by 1930, the soup was served with slices of raw beef cooked gently in the broth and today pho bo remains the most beloved version in Vietnam, with options that include the original raw beef, a mix of raw and cooked beef, brisket and tendon.

Pho is made and served across the country though it originated in Hanoi and was taken to the south, where people added their own touches. The noodle soup has been getting rave reviews from global travel magazines for decades.

A bowl of pho bo in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi cost from VND30,000 to 50,000 ($1.32-2.20).

In HCMC, tourists can try a bowl of pho at famous restaurants like Hoa, Phu Vuong or Le while Bat Dan, Thin, Ly Quoc Su are the most popular addresses in Hanoi for original flavors.

The CNN list also includes French Bouillabaisse, Spanish Gazpacho, American Gumbo, Myanmar's Mohinga, Japanese Tonkotsu ramen and Soto ayam from Indonesia.

My Khe Beach benefits from being perfectly located at the heart of World Heritage sites - the ancient port of Hoi An, the mysterious Phong Nga Caves, the home place of the Champa population and the revered imperial city of Hue are all easily accessible.  5 . An Bang Beach

                                                 An Bang Beach
Just four kilometres from Hoi An’s UNESCO World Heritage centre and 30 kilometres from Da Nang International Airport, An Bang Beach is the perfect complement to the sightseeing and tourist bustle of town. With the once popular Cua Dai Beach suffering from severe erosion, An Bang now holds the crown as Hoi An’s go-to beach. The beach has rapidly grown from a sleepy beach side village, now thriving and becoming its own destination. An Bang Beach became popular so quickly, that the area is not very built up at all, adding to its beach village feel. The bars and restaurants are all quite small, but they definitely do not fault when it comes to delicious food, refreshing drinks and entertainment. There are substantial amounts of money being put into An Bang, attracting even more holiday makers to the area.

An Bang Beach is well set up for tourists. There are a few ATMs, pharmacies, convenience stores, clothing and swimming accessory shops. Coupled with lots of bars, restaurants, hotels, villas, homestays, spas, massage salons, and even cooking classes.

Quy Nhon Beach is located in the central coast of Quy Nhon City , Binh Dinh Province . It streches for almost 7 kms along the City beside the main road. Even The beach is beautiful with white sand and blue water but still a non touristy beach destination. The main reasons are Not Many choices of deluxe and luxury hotels for the tourists . Now luxury hotels and resorts are building ( some of them are running ) in Quy   Nhon Beach and in other beaches nearby. Theses will bring more choices for tourists to stay in the future

 3. Con Dao Beach Island

                                                                          Con Dao Beach
Con Dao’s turquoise waters sparkle like a jewel, and they’re best enjoyed from one of the island’s many beautiful beaches. Some are ideal for vegging out while others require an adventurous hike. One thing’s for sure: it will never be crowded. Here’s a rundown of all the island’s noteworthy beaches.
Unless you’re staying at Six Senses Con Dao, you’ll be staying in Con Son town and luckily you don’t have to go far for a dip. The town sits on prime oceanfront real estate and you can swim anywhere in this area. It’s certainly not Con Son’s best beach but it is easy walking distance and remember you can stroll through any of the beachfront resorts to find a patch of sand.
Walk north on the beach or take a quick ride along the coastal road (Nguyen Van Cu) to reach Lo Voi Beach (Bai Lo Voi). The white sand is vast, flat and empty, and relatively rubbish free. During low tide, the water can recede as far as a kilometre – you almost feel as if you could walk to one of the outer islands. Gentle shallow waters make this a lovely spot to visit.
An Hoi Beach is south of town, on the coast near Chua Van Son Pagoda. When we visited it was full of rubbish.

Dam Trau Beach (Bai Dam Trau) is undeniably the island’s best. Clean soft sand and glittering turquoise water broadly stretches out, flanked on either side with rocky green hills. You can easily spend a whole day on your trip lazing here. This beach is directly underneath the airplane landing flight path so watching the propeller planes glide in provides a few seconds of entertainment. Thankfully reggae beats or Vietnamese pop music have not invaded here; it is usually blissfully quiet. And because it is on the west coast and naturally protected, Dam Trau is swimmable even during the windy months of November to February.
To get to Dam Trau, nearing the airport turn left at the blue sign “Mieu Cau 700m”. Follow the sandy trail. If you’ve never ridden a motorbike on sand before, it does require finesse, light steady pressure on the gas and balance. We witnessed one couple take a spill here. Not pretty. If you’re uncomfortable, park the bike anywhere on the side and walk.

 4. Doc Let Beach Nha Trang

                                                                    Doc Let Beach
Fifty kilometres north of Nha Trang lies Doc Let, a quiet Eden of palm-fringed, powdery white sand, sparkling azure waters and a sleepy disposition. Despite its resounding beauty, relatively few people venture here and the beach still feels low-key, natural and wild. Warm blue sea, hot white sand, bright sun and plenty palm trees can make anyone take his mind off all routine fuss and enjoy laidback relax.
The coastal strip is about 6 kilometers in length. The water deepens very slowly, so bathing close to the shore is quite safe even for children. There is no great number of tourists, the key guests of the beach are married couples and honeymooners. You can walk along the coast for a long time and meet no one. Doc Let Beach is an ideal place for a romantic date for two – sunsets are wonderful here.

 5. Lang Co Beach in Hue

                                                                  Lang Co Beach
The beach is located along the side of National Highway No.1A Lang Co commune, Phu Loc district, Thua Thien Hue.  It is about 70 kms from Hue City, 24 kms from Hai Van Pass and Bach Ma Mountain.  Lang Co gathers various tourism resources such as: coast, sand-bank, lake, lagoon, spring, mountain, Hai Van pass, Bach Ma old-grow forest and historical relic… will create the diversify tourism products. Rescue Center
Cuc Phuong’s Endangered Primate Rescue Center (EPRC) was established in 1993 and is a project of Frankfurt Zoological Society. The establishment of EPRC has faced many difficulties, but began with two individuals of Delacour’s langur and Hatinh langur confiscated from the illegal wildlife trade.

The Center currently houses about 160 individuals of 15 species and sub-species in which 6 species nowhere else in captivity. These include Delacour’s langur (Trachypithecus delacouri), Hatinh (Trachypithecus laotum hatinhensis), Black langur (Trachypithecus laotum ebenus), Lao langur (Trachypithecus laotum laotum), Cat Ba langur (Trachypithecus poliocephalus poliocephalus), and Grey-shanked Douc langur (Pygathrix cinerea).

Nine species have been successfully bred in captivity, Delacour’s langur, Hatinh langur, Black langur and Grey-shanked Douc langur the first time in captivity. The proportion of these species reproduction has been very high, with five Delacour’s langurs giving birth to five offspring and ten Hatinh langurs giving birth to 16 individuals at the Center. The Center is only foundation in the world that implements captive rescue for 3 species of Douc langur, including the Grey-shanked Douc langur, Red-shanked Douc langur and the Black-shanked Douc langur with a total of 28 individuals.

Besides its rescue duties, the Center has also led important activities including a program to release captive animals back into the wild. In 2007, eight Hatinh langurs have been released into the semi-wild enclosure at Phong Nha Ke Bang national park, and have achieved initial successes in searching for food, habitat use and other behaviours.

Limestone Karst Landscape
